United to Begin New Non-Stop Flights to Costa Rica

United Announces New Non-Stop Flights to Liberia CR from Denver

United Airlines will begin non-stop seasonal service between Denver and Costa Rica, beginning in December.

The flights will operate once weekly from DIA to San José and from DIA and the airport in Liberia, Costa Rica. The flight to San Jose will give travelers access to the capital and the Liberia flight will give travelers quick access to the beaches in Guanacaste.

The route between Denver International Airport and San José will operate once a week from Dec. 18 to April 30, 2016. The flight will depart from DIA at 10:59 p.m.n on Fridays and will arrive at Juan Santamaría Airport on Saturdays at 5:24 a.m. From San José, the flight will depart Saturdays at 7:19 a.m., arriving in Denver at noon.

The route to Daniel Oduber Airport in Liberia also will operate on Saturdays between Dec. 19 and April 30. Flights will leave from Denver at 9:55 a.m. and arrive in Liberia at 4:15 p.m. Departures from Liberia will be at 12:30 p.m., and will arrive in Denver at 5:05 p.m.

Costa Rica Tourism Minister Mauricio Ventura said the news from United is important for the country: “These new flights will boost the tourism sector throughout the country, but they also will expand opportunities for Costa Ricans to fly to this major U.S. destination.”

Southwest Airlines announced earlier it will begin non-stop service to both Costa Rica airports by Nov. 1

The U.S. is Costa Rica’s main source of tourists. In 2014, the country registered a total of 936,929 arrivals from the U.S. — a 7.6 percent increase from 2013.
