Guanacaste Surfing Circuit – Costa Rica’s New Surfing Mecca

Last November marked an epic event for the province of Guanacaste.  For the first time in history, the beaches of Guanacaste hosted their very own surfing circuit.  Beginning at Playa Tamarindo in 2013, the Guanacaste Surf Circuit is now running in to a new year and is driving even more tourism to Guanacaste while giving local athletes the chance to shine.

According to an article in the Costa Rica Star the Spokeswoman for the Costa Rica Surf for Youth Foundation, Andrea Diaz, explained, “We want to turn Guanacaste into a surfing mecca, but we want to especially focus on a vision of social responsibility, whereby surfing will be introduced to young boys and girls who do not have the financial resources to participate.”

The world-renowned beaches of Guanacaste have, in recent years, attracted the interest of international travelers and increased economic development, making it a prime location for this kind of event. While the province is home to some of the best surfing in Costa Rica, the Guanacaste Surfing Circuit is the first competitive surfing event of its kind.

The Guanacaste Surfing Circuit Gains Momentum and Attracts Visitors to the Costa Rica

The Guanacaste Surfing Circuit is quickly becoming one of the most popular and important series of surfing events in all of Costa Rica.  The most recent event was held at Reserva Conchal.  The Reserva Conchal Tiki Hut Cup was the third event of the Guanacaste Pro Surfing Circuit and attracted an increased number of visitors and activity to Guanacaste, leaving local businesses very pleased with the circuit’s response.

The events continue next month at Playa Avellanas, then Tamarindo Beach in April and wrap up on the shores of Playa Negra in May as the province of Guanacaste looks forward to attracting more tournaments and events as it takes advantage of the multi-billion dollar surfing industry.
